What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

vaginal rejuvenation

What is all the talk about vaginal rejuvenation?  Dr. Shannon Pickens is the physician who performs this treatment in our office. Dr. Pickens explains to us all the details of this laser service and how it can help.  If you want even more information or would like to hear straight from Dr. Pickens, she is hosting a lunch and learn discussion this week on this very topic at Chronos on Wednesday, September 12th.

Q:  What is vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal Rejuvenation with the CO2RE Intima Laser is a nonsurgical way to restore your vaginal health. Many women experience vaginal changes after childbearing, around the time of menopause or from the aging process itself. Woman may notice a decrease in tightness of the vagina, loss of vaginal lubrication, decreased sexual enjoyment and stress urinary incontinence. The CO2RE Intima Laser can help relieve many of these symptoms.

Q:  How does the treatment help these symptoms?

When using the internal hand piece of the CO2RE Intima Laser, it stimulates the production of collagen through heat. Collagen production can tighten the walls of the vagina and improve urinary incontinence. It can also increase blood flow in the area which increases lubrication and in turn, decreases itching, dryness and pain with intercourse. The CO2RE Intima can also be used externally to tighten sagging skin of the vulva and labia as well as improve texture and pigmentation. Many patients in our clinic and around the country have had great improvement and satisfaction from treatment with the CO2RE Intima.

Q:  How long before any results are achieved?

The internal treatment is done at 4-week intervals for 3 treatments. A maintenance treatment is recommended once per year. External treatments can be done one time or more if desired.

Q:  What would be an alternative treatment to laser treatment?

The CO2RE Intima is designed to treat mild to moderate symptoms. Alternatives include estrogen therapy or surgery. It is always a good idea to speak with your OBGYN to make sure you do not have any contraindications prior to treatment.

Q:  Is the CO2RE laser FDA approved?

While there are currently not any lasers FDA approved for laxity, itching or stress incontinence, the CO2RE Intima is FDA approved for intravaginal use (as described above).
